Our #GoBackGiveBig campaign has begun and we’re on our way to providing hundreds of school children with the necessary classroom supplies to foster a new year of learning and development. Your support on social media is part of our success. (THANK YOU!) The other part is our partner Baby2Baby, a nonprofit organization that has been providing diapers, clothing and basic material needs for children for years, gaining the support of communities, celebrities and even the White House. We sat down with Baby2Baby co-founders Kelly Sawyer Patricof and Norah Weinstein for a little Q&A about what drives them, what challenges them, and what having school supplies means to a child in need.

SOCOZY:  How has being a mom shaped the vision of Baby2Baby?
B2B: Being moms shapes Baby2Baby completely. It is impossible not to be devastated by the fact that 1 out of 3 moms in the U.S. has to choose between food and diapers. It’s what we wake up reminding ourselves and why we have such an incredible network of support.

SOCOZY: What have been your proudest moments at Baby2Baby?
B2B: We are proud when moms tell us that we have given them hope. We are proud when we know we are taking a burden off parents by giving them the basic essentials they need for their children. We are proud to be serving 125,000 low-income children with diapers, clothing and gear. But we don’t spend too much time being proud–instead we remind ourselves how much more work we have to do.

SOCOZY: What have been the most challenging?
B2B: The challenges are the typical challenges of running a business. We constantly need more space and more resources to expand further, but it’s a great problem!

SOCOZY: How does back to school readiness impact a child’s path?
B2B: In every way! We take for granted the ability to buy our children new uniforms, shoes, backpacks and pencil boxes for school when this is impossible for so many parents living in our same city. When a child doesn’t have a clean shirt for school, he sometimes stays home out of embarrassment. When her shoes are 3 sizes too small, she can’t pay attention in math. The kids need these basic supplies to get started on the right foot. Please donate all the backpacks and school supplies you can–they are needed everywhere!
