Dads Make Great Heroes

Dads Make Great Heroes

There are superheroes among us. They aren’t always easy to spot, but every now and then they get caught in action for the rest of us to see. These heroes all answer to the same name, though their heroics varies by situation. Their name? Dad.

Sometimes they wear a cape to the hardware store with their trusty sidekick (though most often they leave the cape at home). Sometimes they save the day by saying the right thing after a tough loss on the soccer field, or after a particularly hard breakup. Sometimes they perform funerals for hamsters. Sometimes they help with homework. Sometimes they watch Frozen for the billionth time, just because it’s her favorite. And sometimes, as in the case of Nils Pickert, they don a skirt in public. (You know, instead of a cape.)

This superhero dad has a son who likes to wear skirts and dresses sometimes, and sometimes out in public. This can attract attention and unsolicited opinions, so this superhero dad made a bold decision: he’d wear them too. According to Pickert, “It is not OK for anybody to mess with my son about his outfit. Hence, I wear dresses and skirts so that any person who has a problem with that and feels the necessity to express his or her resentments can mess with me.”

At SoCozy, being yourself is our idea of cool, and parents who make it easier to be yourself is our idea of a superhero. So here’s to the superhero dads out there—in capes, skirts or business casual khakis—thanks for saving the day.
