Ask Cozy
As most of you know, Cozy hit the road and teamed up with Make Meaning in Bethesda, MD and Thousand Oaks, CA for a SoCozy Model Search. Cozy and the SoCozy team met so many awesome families, and it couldn’t have gone better! Amongst the crowd, Allison Mintz, stood out while she couldn’t help but try to get all the info she could out of Cozy. So, we decided to set up a Q&A, where Allison had the floor. Check out her questions and what Cozy had to say!
What did you want to do when you were a kid? Were there any jobs you wanted, and did you have any hobbies?
I always had a job starting at age 15. My first job was at a party supply store called Party Palace. I was a stock girl and moved my way up to a cashier. Looking back I realized it was the foundation for Cozy’s Cuts For Kids. I didn’t really have any hobbies other than hanging out with my friends and talking on the phone a lot.
What was your college major?
I was a Communications Major with a strong interest in Advertising. All of my internships and jobs were focused on advertising, as was my first job after college. After a short stint, I realized corporate life wasn’t for me and moved on to fashion.
How did you get involved with hair care?
Accidentally! I decided to open a kid’s salon after hearing my friend’s story about taking her nephew to her adult salon and being asked to leave once he began to cry. I quit my job and went to barber school and two years later launched my first CCFK salon.
Who came up with the names and designs for the products?
When my son was about seven he was spraying on the Lice Prevention Spray (before we had named it), and he said “boo! I’m going to scare the lice away”, and that’s how Boo! was born. Cinch and Behave practically named themselves because that’s what they do and what they are all about. Cinch – making your life easier and Behave – making your child’s hair actually behave (even if your child won’t:) ).
Who is your biggest influence?
My mom was my biggest influence. She was very successful in her career (#2 Rolls Royce Sales Person in the world) and was the one who made me realize that I can accomplish anything I want to accomplish. Set your sights high!!
What are some of the ingredients in the creams and mousses? Are there any harsh chemicals in them?
We have only the highest quality ingredients in all of SoCozy products, including Keratin, Silk Amino Acids & Soy Proteins, Panthenol (Provitamin B5), Fruit Acid Complex and Kiwi extract. Equally as important is what’s NOT in our formulations – there are NO NASTIES, which is no joke! No Parabens, Sulfates, Propylene Glycol, Phthalates, Wheat, Gluten or Nuts. They’re so safe!
What product in your line would you most recommend in general?
Everyone raves about the 3 in 1 shampoo because it’s a shampoo, conditioner & body wash, so it’s three products in one bottle. I was always skeptical that a 3 in 1 could work, but this one is amazing!! Also, our Detangler & Leave-In Conditioner is a miracle product. No more drama getting rid of tangles!
What’s next for SoCozy™?
We are thrilled about partnering with Target and launching in all their stores. Equally exciting is our HSN partnership. We will be introducing new categories in the fall, but still top secret!
Thanks for the fantastic questions! There’s nothing I appreciate more than a young lady like yourself that is so interested in business! I also want to thank everyone who joined us for our two events; we had a blast!
