Talking Fatherhood with SoCozy Co-Founder Scott Gurfein
Passionate, dedicated, creative and hard working—those are a just a few of the adjectives that come to mind to describe SoCozy co-founder Scott Gurfein. Not surprisingly, it’s some of the same adjectives that describe him as a dad. In honor of Father’s Day, we sat down with Scott to talk about his favorite subject: his kids, Skye and Jagger.
On what he loves most about being a dad:
I love the love. There is nothing like a child’s love and nothing like having the opportunity to give it back. It’s my greatest privilege on Earth.
On what he loves doing with his kids:
I love hanging out with and engaging with my little people. My daughter Skye and son Jagger each have big personalities, and strong wills and opinions. I love watching them engage in the things they are passionate about at the moment – for Skye, it’s typically arts and crafts and making clothes for her Barbie dolls out of anything she can get her hands on – play dough, paper, tape, you name it. For Jagger, it’s all about cars and balls – a real guys guy.
On advice for other dads:
Be there and be present – figuratively and literally. There is always after dinner to catch up on work. Treat and talk with your kids as people and relate to them. It provides for a great and unexpected relationship. Finally, you’re a Dad first; friend second. Set the boundaries and enforce them when needed. Your kids need to know right from wrong and it’s your job to teach them.
On his go-to hairstyle for his daughter:
You can’t go wrong with a basic pony. It’s a classic and looks great on Skye. (And, getting it just right is harder than it may seem!)
Thanks, Scott and Happy Father’s Day!
