Quinoa’s Take: Fashion Week Report Card
Back-to-school time always means a field trip to New York Fashion Week for me, my friends, and our male model mannies. And this year I’m handing out the grades for some of my fave (or least fave) looks!
I like this sleek, low ponytail with a tight braid, especially paired with the super serious facial expression of a librarian/international spy. Grade: B
If you’re a fan of both ballet and tropical birds, this hairstyle is for you. A little plume of hair tucking out of a bun is both chic and unexpected. Grade: A
It seems that side parts are migrating further and further from the center this year and this look gets it right. From the ears up, it’s ten-year-old boy on Sunday brunch with Grandma, all slicked and well-behaved, but from the ears down, it’s relaxed and flowing. Grade: A-
I call this look “Dad’s First French Braid.” Grade: C-
A low-slung ponytail with a simple ribbon is a great look this season. It borders on prairie-chic, but in a good way. Grade: B-
All I can say is, this is the best Donald Trump has looked in years! Somehow that comb-over is totally working. It can’t be explained, it just is. Grade: B+
There’s nothing wrong with a classic. A traditional pony with a twist braid never hurt anybody. Grade: B
It’s a little bit boho princess and a lot fantastic. You could even do this on a Tuesday when you accidentally wake up fifteen minutes late. Grade: A-
Just as faux fur is the way to go these days, so are faux dreads. This is so rock-n-roll, it’s practically playing an eight-minute drum solo. Grade: A+
Frankly, this piggy bun look is nailing it. It’s like a scaled-down version of Princess Leia that needs no help whatsoever from Obi-Wan Kenobi. Grade: A
No. Just no. Grade: F-
The hair knots were everywhere this fashion week, and even though they can border on a Les Miserables sing-along, they are still a solid hairdo choice. Grade: B
Are you a duck bill or are you a bun? Call me when you figure it out. Grade: C
Great, now I’m going to need trauma therapy. Grade: F-
A low, loose side braid with a long tail is poetry in motion. In fact, I’m going to submit this hairdo for my next poetry reading. Grade: A
Twist meets bun at the intersection of awesome. Everyone should start wearing this hairstyle immediately. Grade: A+
