Today we’re sharing a homemade Halloween Treat that’s so good it’s scary! Brought to you from the kitchen of SoCozy mom Kirsten with the help of her two kids.
Halloween is my family’s favorite holiday but with two kids, a 9 year old son, and a 3 year old daughter, the age difference can make holiday activities a challenge. Let’s face it – my son doesn’t want to do the same things as my daughter – parents: you know the struggle. But they can both agree on one thing – sweet, yummy treats!
This year our Halloween treat is Monster S’More Sticks. This is a super easy, kid friendly recipe. I wouldn’t recommend doing this before dinner or bedtime – let’s just say my kids were a liiiitle wound up and were up way past their bedtime!
All the ingredients for these spooky treats are easily found in your local grocery and craft stores. Here’s what you’ll need:
- Graham Crackers
- Marshmallow Fluff
- Candy Melts (get a variety of colors so you can customize your pops!)
- Candy Eyeballs
- Popsicle Sticks
- Cookie Icing (tube or bottle will work)
- Cookie Tray
- Parchment Paper (less mess to clean up later)
Step 1:
Line your cookie tray with parchment paper – keep the wax side facing up so the chocolate won’t stick. Next, break the graham crackers in half making two squares – just like you’re making s’mores. Place marshmallow fluff on one side of the squares & the Popsicle stick in the middle.
Tip: Add a tiny bit more marshmallow fluff on the top of the popsicle stick for extra stick when you place the other graham cracker on top.
Step 2:
Place the pops in the freezer for 10 minutes. While those are freezing, the next step is to melt the chocolate. Candy Melts are microwavable and the easiest to work with – but you can use whatever you like. Be sure not to put your Candy Melts in the microwave for too long – the chocolate can burn!
Tip: I gave each of my kids their own bowl of chocolate to work with to keep the peace.
Moms beware – your kids might “accidently” drip chocolate on their hands so they can lick it off.
After the s’mores pops were coated with chocolate, place the candy eyeballs on them before the chocolate hardened. Then, place the pops in the refrigerator for 10 minutes to cool and harden.
Step 3:
Once the pops are hardened, it’s time to decorate with cookie icing. This is where the kids can let their imaginations run wild – have fun and be creative!
Enjoy!
Kirsten
