“It started out with helping my momma out so she can pay her bills and I can buy my own school supplies.”

These are the words of ten-year-old Tyran Bell from Wilmington, North Carolina, who started mowing lawns this summer in order to earn money to help with the cost of going back to school. His mother has missed work recently to help Tyran’s older brother recover from an accident and Tyran wanted a way to help his family.

Our #GoBackGiveBig campaign has begun and we’re on our way to providing hundreds of school children with the necessary classroom supplies to foster a new year of learning and development. Your support on social media is part of our success. (THANK YOU!) The other part is our partner Baby2Baby, a nonprofit organization that has been providing diapers, clothing and basic material needs for children for years, gaining the support of communities, celebrities and even the White House. We sat down with Baby2Baby co-founders Kelly Sawyer Patricof and Norah Weinstein for a little Q&A about what drives them, what challenges them, and what having school supplies means to a child in need.

Teaming up with Cat & Jack was a no-brainer for SoCozy. Their clothes were designed not only with kids in mind, but with kids input. The result is fresh, fun and full of joy. It goes hand in hand with our belief that “being you is our idea of cool.” That’s also why we collaborated with the models to create hairstyles they loved and captured their own sense of style.

Remember the joys of back-to-school supply shopping? The smell of a fresh pack of No. 2 pencils? The crisp new edges of colorful folders? The thrill of a stack of new books to explore? The possibilities of a brand new school year seem to be embodied in these all-too-important supplies.

Unfortunately, too often these simple joys of going back to school are a burden on families who are unable to fulfill their back to school list. So as kids around the country are gearing up to go back to school, we are stepping up to supply some of that “gear” by outfitting 525 school children (15 classrooms!) with the supplies they need to foster learning and development.

Quinoa here. As promised, I’ve got the inside scoop on the launch of Cat & Jack, a new line of funky, fun, designed-with-kids, designed-for-kids clothing from Target. (As if anyone needed another reason to love Target, right?) The event was held July 22 under the Brooklyn Bridge at the Brooklyn Bridge Park and filled with celebs, amazing decorations, hair by SoCozy, and a giant gumball machine that kicked out Target gift cards. I’m thinking of getting one for my house.

Summer time. The kids are out of school and everyone is enjoying a little time to cut loose. There are no rules: pajamas all day, breakfast for dinner, hair colored in every color of the rainbow. Yes, you read that right. Pink! Blue! Purple! Green! Bet you thought you wouldn’t have to worry about hair dying until the kids were in high school. And we bet you didn’t think coloring your kids’ hair would be YOUR idea either. But we’ve got a fun, easy way to add color that’s not permanent or damaging, but is a ton of fun!

It never fails. Less than a week after school lets out for the summer, my friends begin complaining about summer boredom. It’s hard for me to understand, since I have only experienced boredom once (at a Beige Festival I was taken to as an infant that resulted in my au pair Cannelloni being permanently let go). But I have done my best to draw on that experience to come up with some summer boredom busters to help my friends. Because I’m generous like that.

Quinoa here, reporting from behind the scenes at the dress rehearsal for the launch of the new Cat & Jack clothing line by Target (pronounced “Tarzshay”). I think we can all agree that the only redeeming thing about a new school year is the fresh new fashions that go along with it.
