Does the facility in which the products are made contain peanuts, soy, and wheat?
The facilities we use manufacture multiple personal care, as well as Over-the-Counter (OTC) products for many brands that in many cases do utilize ingredients made from various nut and gluten based sources. However, they follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) set forth by the FDA that require proper cleaning and sanitization protocols. The manufacturing equipment (tanks, pumps, mixing apparatus) and filling equipment are made of stainless steel and efficient and effective cleaning is used, ensuring ingredient cross-contamination is kept to its lowest possible parameters. Unfortunately, at this time we cannot make such a claim as to manufacturing without any of the aforementioned allergens, and it’s most doubtful that any manufacturers at this time would make such a claim.

My child experienced an adverse reaction to Boo! What do I do?
Thank you for contacting us with this information. We are sorry that you had this experience but do want you to know that our products undergo stringent testing and that we have not had any other reports of this nature from other customers. The products were tested on 50 human subjects with repeat testing done to evaluate the potential for skin irritation and sensitization. No adverse reactions were reported during the initial test or the retest, and the consulting dermatologist concluded that SoCozy Boo Lice Prevention Spray may be considered a non-primary irritant and non-primary sensitizer to the skin. Although our hair care products are chemical and pesticide free, they do contain natural ingredients like peppermint oil, tea tree leaf oil, rosemary leaf extract and lavender flower extract that can cause irritation on sensitive skin. If you encountered an adverse reaction, or your child experiences irritation or itching, discontinue use and consult a doctor. We do wish to further investigate this situation and ask if you would return the products you bought so that we may conduct tests. We would provide pre-paid return packaging for this purpose if you agree. In addition, we would like to offer you a full refund directly on your purchase if you have not returned the products. If you have your receipt, please email it to us along with your contact information and we will send you a check. Finally, if you are ever in the NYC area, we would like to offer you a complimentary visit to one of our salons.
What are parabens?
The word paraben describes any group of compounds used as preservatives in cosmetic products. It’s the special X factor added to extend the shelf life of products and prevent the growth of bacteria. Parabens can be absorbed through the skin and into the bloodstream. They mimic estrogen in the body, and estrogen disruption has been linked to breast cancer and other reproductive issues.
What are phthalates?
Phthalates are known to be an endocrine and hormone disrupter. Meaning they can negatively affect the way your child grows physically and mentally. Exposure to this chemical has shown to be a main cause of cancer. Phthalates are sometimes used in cosmetic products as solubilizers (the agent that something is dissolved in). Innovation has made it possible to achieve the same result without the harmful risk.
What are sulfates?
Sulfates are harsh, irritating cleansing agents that are not only harmful to you, but harmful to the environment. They create lather in ordinary shampoo and soaps. Sulfates bind with oils and dirt that may, on the surface, seem like a good thing, but sulfates also carry away essentials by stripping the hair and scalp of necessary natural oils and nutrients that the hair needs to stay strong, clean, and healthy.
What are the issues with synthetic color?
Synthetic color additives may be harmful, especially to children. They are believed to be cancer-causing agents. Children are often highly sensitive to synthetic colorants, causing allergic reactions.
What cleansing agents does SoCozy use?
SoCozy uses a variety of sulfate-free surfactants that are exceptionally luxurious and gentle on the hair and skin. These readily biodegradable cleansers have a legacy of safety data to support their non-toxic use for you and the environment. Also, SoCozy products are Sulfate and DEA free.
What does SoCozy use to scent its products?
SoCozy’s fragrances are nature identical; that is - they mimic the delicious scents found in nature. SoCozy fragrances are phthalate free, glycol free, formaldehyde free and EDTA free. They DO NOT contain any synthetic colors or dyes.
What is boo! and what makes it effective?
SoCozy boo! assortment is a short term solution to scare away lice, naturally. We use a proprietary blend of natural ingredients, which include peppermint oil, tea tree leaf oil, rosemary leaf extract, and lavender flower extract proven to help keep lice away. The essential oils found in boo! contain active ingredients that can cause irritation on sensitive skin. We recommend you perform a Skin Patch Test to test for possible allergic reactions. If an adverse reaction occurs, or you experience irritation or itching, discontinue use and consult a doctor.
What is gluten and what are the concerns with this ingredient?
Gluten describes a group of proteins found in certain grains (wheat, barley, and rye). Some people may have an overactive immune response to gluten. Although this is not common, a study done by the New York Times explained that 1 in 100 people suffer from gluten sensitivity, so we say, why risk it!?

What is the difference between SoCozy 2 in 1 and 3 in 1?
The 2 in 1 is a lighter formula, perfect for finer textured hair, or kids with oily hair. The 3 in 1 is perfect for kids with thicker, coarser hair who need extra moisture and conditioning.
What is the issue with Propylene Glycol?
Propylene Glycol is used as a humectant, meaning it helps conditioners absorb into the skin. This ingredient is a common skin irritant and exposure can cause allergic reactions.
What makes SoCozy conditioner so different from other brands?
Versatility. It’s lightweight enough to use on fine hair yet concentrated enough to use on thicker hair textures. It is extremely effective for maximum hydration and getting out tangles and super easy to rinse out.
What other ways can I help prevent head lice?
DO NOT share hairbrushes, combs, hats, helmets, pillows and headphones. Try to avoid hanging coats, scarves and hats in cubbies and on top of other children’s clothing. This is how lice are most easily spread, We recommend using boo! Lice Prevention Spray daily to avoid a lice incident. Wash hair every 2-3 days with boo! Lice Prevention Shampoo for added protection. Immediately wash all bedding, pillowcases and clothing after camp or when you hear of a lice outbreak in a school. Then dry bedding in a very hot dryer to ensure that the lice don’t stand a chance.
What preservative system does SoCozy use?
Preservatives are defined as a material that will prevent the growth of or react with and destroy microorganisms that might damage the product or create a health hazard by growing on or in the product. Preservatives are used to protect our formulas from contamination by bacteria, yeast or mold from the time the product is manufactured up until the time the product is completely used up by the consumer. Currently we use very mild and safe synthetic preservatives at very low concentrations to protect our formulas. However, we are reformulating all of our products using a new natural preservative system to ensure your safety and health.
What type of product testing does SoCozy perform on its formulas?
SoCozy conducts numerous safety tests, microbial challenge tests, and stability and consumer use tests to ensure our formulas are safe and effective.
What’s the difference between the SoCozy Styling Gel and Styling Cream?
Creams are good for those who are looking for a soft-hold styler that controls frizz, softens straight hair, and tames flyaways and smoothes curls. Gels are perfect for those who are looking for a medium-hold styler that keeps their style in place or those who need to define their waves and curls.
What’s the ideal hair type that will benefit most from the detangler?

What’s the purpose of a styling cream for a child?
SoCozy Styling Cream smoothes and refines hair, tames frizz and provides subtle hold. It tames flyaways by smoothing the cuticle and is good for all hair types.
What’s the purpose of a styling gel for a child?

Why are SoCozy products different from everyone else?
SoCozy has done extensive research on every ingredient put into our products and ensures that every ingredient contains NO Parabens, Sulfates, Phthalates, Synthetic Color, and Propylene Glycol. And is free of Gluten, Wheat, Peanuts or Tree Nuts. Also, we develop our products a little differently. Our hair products are conceptualized by Cozy Friedman herself and tested by stylists in her salons at Cozy’s Cuts for Kids in NYC. To learn more, please visit www.socozy.com.
Why do SoCozy products contain Limonene?
Limonene is a scent and solvent ingredient naturally occurring in the rind of citrus fruit. Most issues with Limonene occur when the compound is oxidized or turns rancid. The Cosmetics Database states that "Upon storage and exposure to sunlight and air, limonene degrades to various oxidation products that act as skin and respiratory irritants and sensitizers." Limonene itself is not problematic, but it's the compounds it turns into when it goes rancid. To avoid this from happening, we suggest you replace our products 18 months after opening.
Why does SoCozy use Butylphenyl Methylpropional?
Butylphenyl Methylpropional is a fragrance additive found in many cosmetic products, it can sometimes act as an allergen and may cause contact dermatitis in susceptible individuals. It is considered safe only within recommended use of concentration. We use an extremely low percentage of this ingredient so it should not be a cause of irritation.
Why does SoCozy use Diazolidinyl Urea?
Diazolidinyl Urea is a preservative to use against bacteria and anti-fungal elimination. Experiments and tests performed on Diazolidinyl Urea have proved that amounts up to 0.5% are safe. Diazolidinyl urea can be a formaldehyde-releasing preservative, and although that may sound scary, the amount of formaldehyde released is well below the recommended limits of exposure.
Why does SoCozy use Iodopropynyl Butylcarbamate?
Iodopropynyl Butylcarbamate is a preservative used to prevent contamination to products by repelling fungus and bacteria. As long as this ingredient is used under the amount of 0.02%, which ours is, there rarely is a risk in using this as a preservative in cosmetic formulations.
Why does SoCozy use Methylisothiazolinone?
Methylisothiazolinone is an antifungal preservative that is capable of selectively eliminating living organisms and a wide variety of bacteria and fungi from growing in cosmetics and beauty products; it is approved for use in cosmetics at low concentrations.
Why does the Styling Cream and Styling Gel flake? Why would this happen?
Polymers are typically the source of “hold” in styling products such as hair gels and creams. As the product is applied, the polymers deposit onto the surface of the hair and dry to form clear films. If the hair is manipulated, like running your hands through it or putting on and taking off caps, helmets, etc. it can create a white residue or cause hair to flake. It is also possible that too much product was applied which would also cause product buildup. Make sure you start off with a small amount of product (like a dime size), and if you feel the need to add more then do so. A little goes a long way. We are so sorry to hear that you experienced this issue. If you provide your address, we would be happy to send you another styling product as a replacement.
Why is it important to use a detangler when removing knots?
SoCozy Detangler + Leave-in Conditioner smoothes the scales on the hair's outer surface making it softer, more pliable for easily removing tangles. The added benefit of using SoCozy detangler is that it’s also a leave-in conditioner, so it’s great for the hair too!
Why is it important to use conditioner on my child?
Using SoCozy Conditioner prevents hair breakage and tangling while restoring moisture and strengthening the hair. Each time you condition the hair, conditioning agents smooth the cuticle, providing soft hair that looks healthy.
Why should I use mousse on my child?
Mousse gives the hair body, light hold and shine. If you have naturally curly hair and let your mousse-covered locks air-dry, your curls will be softer and more defined. Follow the same process with straight hair and you’ll end up with added texture and volume.
Why should I use premium hair care products versus value brands?
Salon quality formulas like SoCozy contain better ingredients that are highly concentrated. Value brands may have some of the same ingredients as salon quality products, but the formulas are often diluted. Value brands can also contain harmful ingredients that buildup on the hair making it dry and brittle, unlike premium brands that nourish the hair and scalp with vitamins, proteins, and healthy oils.
With all the news about "super/mutant lice" has any research been done in the prevention of these lice?
It’s important to understand/recognize that the issue of "super lice" refers to the fact that lice have built up a resistance to the chemicals that are used to kill (eliminate) them, thus making some lice elimination products ineffective. Boo products are not elimination products -they are prevention products that are effective for the purpose of repelling lice. Our proprietary blend of essential oils is a repellant, which keeps the lice away. Cinch
